The Philippines fell to 0-3 in distaff play.
Janine Pontejos’ three-point shooting kept the Philippines afloat
early in the match. Pontejos, the former Centro Escolar University
star, scored nine of the first 11 points including four triples.
But Spain’s Paula Palomares answered with a barrage of outside shots
of her own including the go-ahead basket at 13-11.
And when it came for the final point, Palomares scored on an undergoal
stab to give Spain the win 21-17.
Janine Pontejos led the scoring parade with 13 points while Palomares scored 11.
The win gave Spain a 3-0 record in Pool D.
