Fiba announced the appointment of Andreas Zagklis as the new Secretary-General for
basketball’s governing body, 8 December 2018.
Mr. Zagklis replaces the late Patrick Baumann who recently passed away.
The announcement was made by Fiba President Horacio Muratore in a circular to all
members of the federation.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Executive Director Renauld “Sonny” Barrios offered
his congratulations to Mr. Zagklis, who previously served as Fiba’s General Counsel
and Legal Director.
Said Mr. Barrios, “We are happy and proud of Mr. Andreas Zagklis, FIBA General
Counsel/ Legal Director, with his appointment as the new FIBA Secretary General,
replacing the late Patrick Baumann, who unexpectedly passed on during the Youth
Olympic Games in Argentina. Mr. Zagklis is familiar with SBP, especially with Atty.
Edgar (Aga) Francisco, who he made Vice Chairman of the FIBA Legal Commission.
We have extended our congratulations to Mr. Zagklis, expressing SBP's full support to
him and FIBA.”;
Following a joint proposal by Muratore, Zagklis was unanimously appointed by Fiba’s
First Vice President Hamane Niang and Treasurer, Ingo Weiss, as well as Fiba’s

Secretary-General, Andreas Zagklis will obviously develop his own conviction and style
of management, but he will put all efforts in making basketball the most popular sports
