SBP brass flies to Jakarta for World Cup hosting preparations

The hosting of the 2023 Fiba World Cup might be four years away, but the work in
making it all happen, not to mention successful, starts now.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Executive Director Renauld “Sonny” Barrios,
Special Assistant to the SBP President Ryan Gregorio, and Ramon “Cito” Martelino,
SBP Special Projects Director who was involved in the preparations for the bidding for
the World Cup will be flying Jakarta, Indonesia for the January 14 and 15, 2019 FIBA
Workshop.
“The workshop will involve key representatives from the three countries involved in the
hosting – the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia,” bared Barrios. “I believe that the
workshop will cover not only updates on Fiba’s concerns about the venues and other
matters, but also deadlines on all the deliverables.”
“Events of this magnitude are planned and prepared long in advance which is why as
soon as we return from the workshop that will last a day-and-a-half, we will make our
reports to our SBP President Al Panlilio, SBP Chairman Emeritus Manuel V. Pangilinan,
and Philippine Olympic Committee President Ricky Vargas. Needless to say, there will
be a lot of work to be done and the key officers of the Local Organizing Committee
(LOC) will have to be named and decided on.”
“We do not only want to do our country proud when we host a world-class event like
this, but we want to show Fiba that they chose the right host in us and our co-hosting
partners.”
