Philippines finishes third in Pool; outside looking in for next round of Fiba 3×3 U23

The day began for Team Philippines with a miracle – needing two wins
against Turkmenistan and China – and hoping that Slovenia or Serbia
trip themselves up to get a chance to advance to the second round of
the 2018 Fiba 3×3 Under-23 World Cup.

The Philippine team kept the first part of the bargain defeating
Turkmenistan, 21-8, and upsetting China, 21-15. However, Slovenia won
both their matches while China defeated Serbia to both barge into the
next round.

In Pool C, China took the top seed by virtue of points accumulated.
Slovenia is second. The Philippines finished third in the group with
Turkmenistan surprisingly finishing fourth, above Serbia that
disappointed.

To recap, the Philippines lost to Slovenia, 21-14, and to Serbia,
21-18, and triumphed over Turkmenistan and China.

RJ Abarrientos finished the tournament sixth in scoring with 27 while
Ricci Rivero was seventh with 25 points total in four assignments.
Rhayyan Amsali was 35th with 13 points while Jeepy Faundo finished
with seven points.

In the dunk contest, Faundo finished fourth in a field of six with a
total of 21 points.
