Far Eastern University won the first UAAP 3×3 basketball tournament after the Tamaraws defeated Recto-rival University of the East (UE), 21-13, at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on Sunday.
Wendel Comboy led the Tamaraws with 11 points, while Richard Escoto added five including the putback at the 2:04 mark that scored the match’s final points.
FEU with also Kenneth Tuffin and Michael John Casiño lined up, took a 10-3 lead; one they never surrendered.
Alvin Pasaol, Philip Manalang, Mark Maloles and Jason Varilla bannered UE.
En route to the championship round, FEU squeaked past the La Salle Green Archers, 15-12 with Comboy once more starring with six points.
The Red Warriors likewise edged National University, 19-16, in the semi-finals with Pasaol scoring a whopping 17 points to personally outscore the entire Bulldogs quartet.
Meanwhile, NU continued its dominance in women’s basketball with a 15-6 rout of Adamson.
The Lady Bulldogs, behind MVPs Afril Bernardino and Jack Danielle Animam, as well as Ria Nabalan and Annick Tiky, were once more dominant.
In the women’s semifinals, NU scored a 10-5 decision over Ateneo to forge a championship date with Adamson, a 15-8 winner over University of Santo Tomas.
