Batang Gilas thumps Lebanon, 75-53

With Lebanon threatening, 33-31 with 2:10 left in the second period,
Dave Ildefonso went to work.

The incoming National University Bulldog scored eight straight points
to a solitary bucket by Lebanon in the last two minutes of play to
give the Philippines a 41-33 cushion at the half.

Lebanon never threatened again as the Philippines romped to a 75-53
win in their opening assignment of the 2018 Fiba Asia Under-18
Championships at Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Although AJ Edu put up the best stats with 17 points, 12 rebounds, 5
blocks, and 1 assist and 1 steal, it was Ildefonso who struck all the
crucial points.

The son of all-time PBA great Danny Ildefonso scored the Philippines’
first five points then added two more triples – just like he did
towards the end of the second quarter – to close out the first 10
minutes of play, 25-15.

The Lebanese came roaring back in the second period behind point guard
Andrew Kopaly who finished with nine points. The came Ildefonso’s
fiery display.

The 6’4” swingman finished with a game high 19 points on 41% shooting
while grabbing three boards.

Kai Sotto and Dalph Adem Panopio, the Fil-Italian guard, each scored 12 points.

Alexander Zanbaka was the lone Lebanese player in double digits with
12 points. ]

The Philippines’ biggest lead was 24 points after Panopio hit a triple
to hike the lead at 71-47 with 5:28 left to play.
