Gilas Pilipinas Men opened their FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2022 campaign with a stirring 21-19 victory over Jordan Thursday in Singapore.

Joseph Erioubu delivered the game-winning deuce, over the outstretched arm of 6-foot-7 Caden Chudri Zuheir Alnajdawi, with 1:22 left to give the Philippines its first win of the tournament and go 1-0 in Group C.

Almond Vostoros carried the scoring load with 11 points, punctuated by five two-pointers. Eriobu scored six points while Samboy de Leon and Lervin Flores had two points each. Jordan’s Alnajdawi had 10 of his team’s 19 points.

The Philippines held a 16-11 edge but Jordan was able to go on an 8-3 run to tie the game at 19 apiece. Gilas leaned on Vostoros’ shooting for most of the contest while Eriobu and De Leon were able to knock down timely hits. In the end, Eriobu took it upon himself to seal the win.

Gilas will face Indonesia at 8:45 PM later today for a chance to advance to the next phase of the competition.
